Jessica Booker is a senior here at Fort Valley State University majoring in Biology and has been a hard working individual throughout her educational endeavors. Jessica is driven and an inspiration to others within her department. As a former student of Henry County High School and a member of the high school club, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), she was very excited about learning more about the field of biology. Jessica holds a certification in CPR. Here at Fort Valley State University, she was a member of The Blue Machine Marching Band’s Dancing Doll Divas dance line, where she danced two years and her last year served as the captain. Jessica also participates in various clubs and events around the school. Jessica is a member of both Science club and Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students. Jessica enjoys researching and working in the laboratory. Jessica looks forward to finishing her research and presenting at various conferences soon. She has the aspirations of furthering her education through various programs and ultimately becoming a Pediatrician and owning a private practice.

Interests: To become a successful Trauma Surgeon
Andrea Mclendon, age 26, grew up in Miami Florida and graduated from Mundy’s Mill High School. She was a star athlete, president of the poetry club, and devoted every moment of her free time to volunteering at hospital’s and retirement homes. Andrea also spent most of her time attending seminars/outreach programs that informed people on major health issues and how they could better themselves individually. Andrea was able to combine her love for medicine with her passion for helping people,by coordinating free HIV testing and free health care events. Andrea is currently attending Fort Valley State University as a biology major with a minor in Spanish. Andrea plans on graduating from Fort Valley State University with a biology bachelor’s degree and a master’s in public health.She intends to apply and successfully complete medical school. From there she plans on becoming an trauma surgeon and practicing emergency room medicine. As a doctor and pillar of the community,she hopes to become a strong leader and inspire her colleagues while also giving back to the community. Andrea plans to provide free health care to those who can’t afford health insurance.Andrea is an individual who always looks to what the future can be and one thing she wants to do is be beneficial and lend a helping hand and uplift others so they to can get ahead in life.

Haley Hudson is a senior biology major at Fort Valley State University. She displays interest in research and conducting lab experiments. She graduated from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia with honors. In high school, she was a member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders in America) and the community service committee at Westlake called Westlake Works. Haley has been awarded Honor Roll and two Cadet Summer Leadership certificates from ROTC. She participates in ROTC with the result of commissioning as a second Lieutenant in the US Army upon graduation. Haley was also the secretary of the science club at Fort Valley State University and also served as a Student Ambassador for the University. In ROTC, she has received awards including female with the highest Physical fitness score and most improved female. As a biology major, she has future goals to become an optometrist and one day owning her own practice

Miciah Lyons is a senior biology major here at Fort Valley State University and has been doing academically well throughout the years of attending Fort Valley. As a former student of Centennial High School, she graduated as a honor roll student. Miciah is a member of the Women’s Learning Community (WLC), a college organization where women empower one another to excel in their courses and encourage each others to reach their goals in life. She has done volunteer work at a nursing home Fort Valley, GA, serves food at local festivals in Roberta, GA, and has volunteered as a host at multiple events held at Fort Valley State University. While attending Fort Valley State University, Miciah has become a member of the Science Club. She has future goals on continuing her education to become a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Cardiology.

Jasmia Middleton is a sophomore at Fort Valley State University majoring in Psychology, and has been a remarkable student throughout her educational journey. She is very dedicated, talented, and motivational especially to her peers. As a former student of Telfair County High School (TCHS) located in the lovely city of McRae, Ga. Jasmia always kept her academic game up. She was awarded honor roll, awarded coach’s award, received a scholarship from the AKA members of Vidalia, GA, and graduated with honors/ ranked in top 30 students of her class. Jasmia was also a very active member in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a high school based club where she a dedicated member who attended Competitive Events, workshops, and many school trips. She was also a part of many other school clubs such as Literary Creative Arts Club (LCA), Beta Club, Future Farmers of America (FFA), & Student counsel. Since being enrolled to Fort Valley State University, Jasmia continues to be active person. She is now a member of Student Government Association (SGA), Joseph Players Acting club (J.A.P), Trio , and is the secretary of the Behavioral Research group. In occasionally she mentors young children of Central Union church, Located within the community of Fort Valley, GA. Jasmia is looking towards to researching a wide variety of thing an the hopes of becoming a child developmental specialist.

Danielle Henry is currently a junior at Fort Valley State University, in Fort Valley, Georgia, majoring in Biology. She has been an outstanding student throughout her continued education career. Since transferring to Fort Valley State University, Danielle has participated in the Equestrian Club. She has aspirations of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in surgery.
She is a graduate of Georgia Perimeter College where she was awarded Student of the Semester by the Mathematical Department and a Dean’s List recipient. She was Chair and Secretary in Phi Theta Kappa.
As a former student of Stephenson High School she was also an Honor Roll recipient. Danielle was a part of clubs and organizations at Stephenson High School. She was Secretary and Vice President in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).
In her spare time, Danielle volunteers her time at PAWS Atlanta.

About Me: Xavia Taylor, age 21 grew up in Moultrie GA. As a former student of Thomas County Central High school, Xavia was a member of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club. She assisted in monthly blood drives and it peaked her interest in helping others in the medical field. She is a senior Biotechnology major here at Fort Valley State University. Xavia is a part of the Student Government Association and has been since her first year here at FVSU. In addition, she has also become a part of the E.L.I.T.E Program, Louis Stokes Alliance for minority Participation (LSAMP), and Beta Kappa Chi Honors Society (BKX). In her time being at FVSU she has received academic awards, attended convocation, has been pinned for BKX, and received awards from SGA including most dedicated senior. Xavia has chosen her profession because, children really are our future, she believes that taking care of children, and teaching parents how to construct ideal environments that will nourish and stimulate both their bodies and minds, is as close to a perfect profession as can be imagined. In her time, here at Fort Valley, she has been able to attend conferences and work in her departments lab for hands on experience. Currently Xavia is working on two different research projects under Dr. Jefferson of Fort Valley State University she is researching “Neuroendocrine Modulation of Sleep Deprivation in Drosophila melanogaster.” As a summer internship under the University of Georgia she is researching “Cas1 and Cas2 proteins in vitro to test their ability to integrate new spacer DNA sequences into a CRISPR locus.” Xavia plans to present her research projects at conferences before she graduates. She enjoys doing research in relation to her field of interest and the field of science as a whole.

About Me: Yasmine Moffett is a senior Biotechnology Pant Science major at Fort Valley State University. Some of her accomplishments are being accepted into Beta Kappa Chi Science Honor’s Society, research opportunities, sponsorship for a Gordon Conference in August 2017 by the Society of Toxicology, participation in Honor’s Convocation since she began school at Fort Valley State University, and Agri-Demic’s Forum recipient for GPA. She is currently working on research entitled “Neurotoxicological Effects of Sleep Deprivation in Drosophila melanogaster” which will be featured at this year’s Gordon Conference in August. Yasmine also aspires to become a Pharmacist in the future. She will be graduating in the Spring of 2018.
